We decided to go to the Zoo for the day but also have a look
at the Zoo Vivid display. So we drove to Blackheath and took a train to Sydney
and stayed at the Metro on Pitt. We arrive on Tuesday at about 5:30 (bad move,
trying to exit Town Hall station at peak hour) and after settling in headed to
Darling Harbour to see the Vivid display there. Some of the photos are shown
below.
On Wednesday, we headed over to the Zoo and took the Sky Safari
to the top of the hill (yes, Les went on the Sky Safari cable car).
After morning tea, we spent the rest of the day wandering
around the zoo. The weather was overcast and we got a few showers but only
needed the umbrellas for about 5 minutes. We got to see both the seal and bird
shows and the new baby elephant and baby otter. So cute.
The newest member of the Asian elephant family at Taronga Zoo has been named Jai Dee meaning 'good heart'. |

The zoo closes at 4:30 so we waited in the café at the
entrance and had Minestrone soup for tea at about 5:00 pm (old people’s
syndrome!!). The zoo then opened again at 5:30 for Vivid. The good thing is
that for the Vivid display you follow a set path through the zoo and everyone
is going the same way. The bad thing is people who walk in front of you when
trying to take photos!!!! We were also lucky to get the tickets that allowed a
night trip on the Sky Safari and while the view of the city is great, you get
the same if not better during the normal walk so if you decide to try the event
next year if you miss the Sky Safari do not be too worried.
After the walk we caught the bus from the top entrance to
the ferry, the ferry back to Circular Quay, then the train back to the hotel.
Up the next morning and walked to Central and caught the train back to
Blackheath. Collected the car and stopped at Ellie Cats at Monkey Creek Café
for lunch before driving back home. A long 3 days but worth the trip.
